Guidelines

The Child Welfare Fund provides grants to 501(c)3 organizations that work to prevent or mitigate the effects of trauma on very young children in the New York City metropolitan area or families with very young children that have experienced immigration-related trauma.

We do not accept unsolicited proposals, but inquiries in the form of a one-page letter of intent are welcome at any time.

Grants are funded for one year, though we are open to renewing support for successful projects. We expect all programs and organizations to seek funding from other sources.

Proposals may be submitted January 15th, April 15th or September 15th for funding two months later

LETTER OF INTENT

Letters of intent should describe the relevant project, including evaluation plans and amount sought. Be sure to describe the clientele and provide a brief description of the overall organization. Letters should be directed to Susan@childwelfarefund.org. Telephone inquiries are not accepted.

INITIAL PROPOSAL

If, after the letter of intent you are invited to apply, proposals should include no more than 3 to 5 pages of narrative. Please be sure to provide details of the work to be done: why it is needed, who and how many individuals/families will benefit from it, who will provide the services, etc. Include a description of expected outcomes and details on evaluation, including what tools will be used.

Please attach:

  • A copy of the 501(c)3 designation letter including the EIN

  • A link to the most recent Form 990 of the applying organization

  • The latest audited financial report

  • A list of the board of directors with their professional affiliations

  • A budget for the project that details the expenses that would be covered by the CWF grant and gives the cost of the entire project

  • A budget for the overall agency

  • A list of other committed or potential supporters for the project

INTERIM REPORTS

Interim reports should be submitted roughly six months after the grant proposal. All discussion and data should refer only to the grant period. The report should include a narrative of no more than five pages. It should cover: progress made toward the project’s goals; number of clients served (if applicable); ages of children involved (if applicable); efforts made to identify new revenue sources; challenges, if any, of the project; evaluation data; and any lessons learned as well as expected changes going forward. The report should include the original budget from the proposal and compare it to expenditures and sources of revenue to-date.

FINAL REPORTS AND RENEWAL APPLICATIONS

The final report should build on the information in the interim report and discuss what progress was made toward the goals of the project. A final, two-column budget should be included.

Organizations seeking continued funding may include that request with the final report. Please be sure the request addresses the following: project goals; project description (including personnel description, target population, ages of children, and expected number of caregivers and children participating in the program); relevant partnerships and alliances; budget (one column showing the CWF expected expenses and one column showing the full budget of the relevant programming); evaluation plans. Link to most recent 990 should be included with all renewal requests.
